MONTGOMERY, Ala., October 28, 2026 - Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA) today announced a series of investments totaling approximately $450 million that will support future vehicle production, expand engine manufacturing capabilities, and advance next-generation propulsion technologies at the Montgomery manufacturing facility. The investments reinforce Hyundai's long-term commitment to Alabama, bringing the company's total investment in HMMA to nearly $2.2 billion since production began in 2005. The investments, first announced late last month by Hyundai Motor Company President and CEO José Muñoz, are part of Hyundai Motor Group’s $26 billion U.S. investment commitment from 2025 to 2028.

The investment package includes new engine production capabilities, support for Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) technology, and preparations for the production of future Hyundai vehicles, including the refreshed Santa Fe and all-new Tucson.

"Today marks another significant milestone in Hyundai's commitment to Alabama and to the future of manufacturing in the United States," said Mark Rader, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama. "These investments strengthen our manufacturing capabilities, support future vehicle production, and ensure HMMA remains a cornerstone of Hyundai's North American manufacturing operations for years to come."

The investments include enhancements to HMMA's powertrain operations to support the production of additional engine variants, including technologies designed for hybrid-electric and Extended Range Electric Vehicle applications. The projects will increase manufacturing flexibility and position the facility to meet evolving customer demand.

HMMA is also preparing for future production of the all-new Hyundai Tucson, which will begin before the end of 2026, as well as the refreshed Hyundai Santa Fe. Both vehicles will play an important role in Hyundai's product portfolio. The investments include new equipment, tooling, and manufacturing infrastructure necessary to support the programs.

"Alabama continues to be a vital part of Hyundai's success story," said Rader. "The dedication and skill of our Team Members, along with the strong support of our state and local partners, have helped make HMMA one of the most productive automotive manufacturing facilities in North America."

The announcement was made during a special event at HMMA attended by Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey; Kyung-wha Kang, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the United States; Ellen McNair, Secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce; Hyundai leaders; elected officials; and community partners.

“Since its founding in Montgomery 24 years ago, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing of Alabama has become synonymous with cutting-edge design and endless innovation in performance,” Gov. Ivey said. “Hyundai and Alabama are a winning team, and this substantial investment to enhance Hyundai’s well-known automotive line will propel our successful partnership to even greater heights. The future of Hyundai in Alabama is brighter than ever.”

“Hyundai Motor’s investment in the United States, HMMA in particular, is an outstanding example of the ROK-U.S. alliance in action—a partnership in which our two countries pursue shared prosperity for our people,” said Kyung-wha Kang, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the United States. “Hyundai Motor’s additional investment announced today reaffirms this strong partnership and further deepens the integration of our two countries’ automotive industries.”

The investments are expected to generate economic benefits throughout Alabama's automotive industry and supply chain while strengthening the state's position as a leading center for advanced manufacturing and automotive innovation.
